Boy, 3, dies after accidentally locking himself in mum's car and getting stuck for hours

A three-year-old boy has died after he accidentally locked himself in his mum's car for two hours while playing.

Little Heitor Brito Wuaden liked to play in the car, according to his heartbroken family, who said the tot was autistic.

His distraught mum found him unconscious in the vehicle outside their home in Guaranta do Norte, Brazil on Saturday, May 13 and he was taken to hospital.

He died in the early hours of Sunday - Mother's Day in Brazil - and was buried the same day.

The child's father told the police that his wife had arrived home with Heitor at around 1pm that day before going to bed for a nap.

The woman said that she woke up to find her child missing and after a frantic search eventually found him in the vehicle.

He was taken to hospital unconscious but died at around 2am on Sunday, according to local media.

"And may God welcome little Heitor to his Eternal Home.

"To friends and family, our condolences."

The City Council also released a statement. It read: “There are no words to be said at this moment that could cool down the pain of these parents due to the early departure of little Heitor.

"It remains for us to sympathise in this difficult moment and with great confidence place them in God's hands so that they can be comforted and strengthened in peace of spirit."

The police are investigating the incident.
