Boy, 10, writes letter to Qantas CEO asking for career advice

A 10-year-old boy wrote a letter to the CEO of Qantas airlines asking for careers advice which has been shared hundreds of times online.

Alex Jacquot, 10, from Australia, decided to write to the airline boss, Alan Joyce to ask about starting his own career.

Mr Joyce offered to meet the boy and “compare notes” in a widely shared tweet.

In his letter, Alex wrote: “Please take me seriously,” explaining his prospective airline called “Oceania Express.”

As Oceania Express CEO, Alex told the Qantas boss that he had already started working on areas like “what types of planes I’ll need, flight numbers and catering.”

He then asked Mr Joyce for advice on how to proceed with his new enterprise, having now hired a CFO, head of IT and head of maintenance.

The budding entrepreneur wrote: “Seeing as it is the school holidays, I have more time to work. But I don’t have anything to do (that I can think of). Do you have any ideas of what I can do?”

“Seeing that you are the CEO of Qantas I thought I’d ask you.”

My Joyce thanked Alex for getting in touch, and said he “heard some rumours about another entrant in the market.

He also said he did no normally give advice to competitors but would make an exception, “because I too was once a young boy who was so curious about flight and all its possibilities.”

He said: “Our competitors don’t normally ask us for advice but when an airline leader reached out, we couldn’t ignore it.

“Naturally, there was only one way to respond: CEO to CEO.”

The 10-year-old went on Sydney radio station 2GB, saying he was “so excited” when he received the response.

“I was running around the house for 10 minutes. I can’t believe it.
