Boxing news: Luke Campbell set for title shot - and could face Vasyl Lomachenko

Luke Campbell is set for a WBC lightweight world title shot - and he could face superstar Vasyl Lomachenko.

The Hull-born fighter, who lost a split decision fight against Jorge Linares for the WBA belt in 2017, is the mandatory for the WBC strap.

The belt has now been vacated by champion Mikey Garcia as he prepares to move up a weight, with a statement confirming Campbell will aim to win the title this summer.

WBA and WBO king Lomachenko is looking to unify the decision after knocking out mandatory challenger Anthony Crolla on April 12.

He could now be set to travel to the UK to take on Campbell in a battle between two technicians, with Bob Arum revealing the Ukrainian sees the Brit as his biggest challenge.

Conor McGregor finally pays off 15-year debt - but it won't be cashed in

Arum recently told The Telegraph : "Vasyl sees Campbell as the number one challenge in the lightweight division because he follows what his father believes.

"Anatoly reckons that Campbell is the most technically gifted fighter in the division outside his son.

"I did not believe fighting Campbell is a gamble. But it would be a tremendous fight.

"Taking Lomachenko to the UK would be brilliant, as he is worthy of being a global star."

After hammering Crolla, Lomachenko admitted he would be interested in fighting Campbell in the UK.

With Garcia moving up a weight, that looks increasingly likely.

Lomachenko told Sky Sports : "Of course for me, more interest in Mikey Garcia, but if Mikey Garcia can't cut weight, maybe it will be Luke Campbell, maybe we can organise a fight in the UK.

"I come to the UK, unify titles, so we'll see.

"It will be very historical, a big fight."

Campbell and Lomachenko were both Olympic gold medalists at London 2012, with Lomachenko winning the lightweight crown and Campbell succeeding at bantamweight.
