Boxing fans almost unanimous in reaction to Jake Paul finally fighting Tommy Fury

Fans doubt Jake Pal's fight with Tommy Fury will take place after two previous meetings between the pair were cancelled.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul and Love Island star Fury are expected to settle their feud in Saudi Arabia on February 25 after years of back and forth. The rivals were first scheduled to fight in December 2021 but Fury pulled out of the fight due to a bacterial infection and broken rib. He was replaced by ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, who was knocked out by Paul just months after their first fight.

Fury then pulled out of his rescheduled clash against Paul last August when he was denied entry to the US after having visa issues. Paul was rebooked against Hasim Rahman Jr for the same date, but the American failed to make the agreed 200lb weight limit and the fight was cancelled. With a third booking between Paul and Fury now set, fans are sceptical as to whether the fight will take place.

"The fight isn't going to happen one of them pulling out," one user wrote. Another commenter suggested a backup fighter should be organised for the fight, stating: "Who's a good backup for when the fight doesn't happen. [Nate] Diaz, [Joe] Fournier, any other suggestions?" A third user commented: "Looking forward to it being cancelled a week before the fight per usual."

"At this point it’d be more convincing to people if they said Feb. 29," a user jokingly commented. "We'll believe them when they actually get in the ring, no way this fight happens," a fifth wrote with another commenting: "Can’t wait for the announcement where Tommy pulls out again."

Whilst insisting that he's gone to great lengths to organise a rescheduled fight with his rival, Paul even offered to fight Fury in his hometown of Manchester "I have done everything in my power to make the fight happen against this 8-0 boxer, including offering to go to Manchester on February 18 in partnership with Frank and George Warren. I'm looking at any other alternative to make this fight work," Paul told Mirror Fighting .

Paul is unbeaten in six professional fights and picked up the best win of his boxing career last October by winning a hard-fought decision against 47-year-old UFC legend Anderson Silva. The one criticism Paul has faced since ditching his internet fame for a career in the ring is that he hasn't fought an 'actual boxer'. Fury hasn't fought since picking up a one-sided win on the undercard of his brother Tyson's heavyweight title defence last April.
