Bournemouth voted as the UK's best seaside town for 2019 by Brits

Bournemouth is the UK's best seaside town according to the British public.

The hotspot was given the accolade at the 2019 British Travel Awards , where Brits are given the chance to cast their votes for their favourite travel firms, attractions and hotspots.

This year, 402,734 Brits voted across a host of categories - and for those who voted for Best UK Seaside Town, it was Bournemouth which proved triumphant.

The Cornish seaside town of Bude picked up the silver award (while Cornwall itself was named the best UK holiday county), while Blackpool followed with the bronze award.

It's no surprise that Bournemouth proved such a hit.

After all, it's often hailed as one of the UK's best family-friendly destinations and regularly features on lists of Brits' favourite staycation destinations .

There's heaps to see and do, but a highlight has to be Bournemouth Beach with its seven miles of golden sands and blue flag beaches.

In fact, during the summer it can become quite the popular hotspot especially on sunny days with holidaymakers and locals alike flocking to the sands and swim-friendly waters.

There is also plenty on offer for thrill-seekers, with activities ranging from paddle boarding and surfing to kayaking and the world's only pier-to-shore zip line.

Meanwhile, the spectacular coastal walks and landscapes never fail to be a hit with hikers and ramblers looking to take in the picturesque views or explore the historic castles tucked amidst the scenery.

Bournemouth can also make for quite a budget-friendly break thanks to the plethora of free attractions on offer including various landscaped gardens, art trails, piers and harbours to discover.

Then there are its restaurants, shops and cafés, and even an aquarium or two.

Oh, and it's even home to a chocolate-themed hotel !
