Football analysts believe impending free agent Boubacar Kamara to be the best defensive midfielder in Ligue 1.
The CIES Football Observatory ranks each player's individual performance with the use of Opta's data and using this, they believe Kamara to be the best performing defensive midfielder so far this season.
Some reports have linked United to the 22-year-old Marseille midfielder, who has quietly been one of the best players at the position in the French league throughout the past three seasons.
Kamara has shown that he can play in a number of positions during his time at Marseille, but, as revealed by the MEN, United are looking for a holding midfield so would need any new recruit to slot into the number six role, which is Kamara's preferred - and optimal - position.
The Marseille-born midfielder is out of contract in the summer and United are desperate for a player at the position - with much of their problems defensively coming from a lack of protection from the midfield this season.
Whilst Scott McTominay and Fred have shown improvements, United are looking for reinforcements and many United fans are urging the club to go for Kamara.
At the age of just 22 and on an upward trajectory as CIES' study shows, United could steal Kamara at either a cheaper price in January to get ahead of the queue, or wait until the summer in an attempt to bring him to Old Trafford on a free transfer.
