Borussia Monchengladbach star Jonas Hofmann breaks his silence on Chelsea transfer links

Germany international Jonas Hofmann has admitted that he has been left feeling a sense of pride after recently being linked with a move to the likes of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

The Borussia Monchengladbach winger, who has been on the books of the Bundesliga outfit since 2016, has been closely linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent months after an impressive campaign in Germany.

This term, Hofmann, who has been named in Joachim Low's 26-man Germany squad for the European Championship, has been a shining light for Monchengladbach, scoring eight goals and claiming 13 assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

His performances, unsurprisingly, are said to have alerted several clubs across Europe, including the Blues, who are keen on adding a new right-sided player to the squad this summer.

Although no formal offer has yet been made by Chelsea, Hofmann has addressed the reports linking him with a move to west London and other big-name clubs.

Hofmann told Sport1: "Without sounding arrogant, it makes me proud when your name is associated with such top clubs.

"[It is] a great recognition [of my performances]."

Hofmann joined Monchengladbach back in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund, having struggled to nail down a place in the team under now Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel.

But since leaving Dortmund, the 28-year-old has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the most highly thought of wingers in the Bundesliga.

Earlier this week, Monchengladbach director of sport Max Eberl admitted that the German outfit are not keen on the idea of losing Hofmann this summer, but admitted an offer of around €40million (£34.5m) could tempt them to sell him.

"We live in a time when you can't rule anything out," Eberl told Bild am Sonntag, as quoted by bulinews.com. "We certainly don't want to sell Jonas.

"But if at some point a club is offering €40million for Jonas, we can't say we're not interested."

Chelsea are exploring other possibilities in an attempt to sign a new right-sided player, with the club understood to be interested in both Wolverhampton Wanderers Adama Traore and Achraf Hakimi of Inter Milan.
