Borussia Dortmund 'tell Jadon Sancho he can leave' in huge Man Utd transfer boost

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly ready to allow Jadon Sancho to fly the nest this summer with Manchester United expected to come back in for the winger.

The 21-year-old was denied a move last year as Dortmund stood firm over their demands to retain Sancho's services for one more season.

But after securing Champions League football again, Dortmund chiefs are now said to view Sancho's departure as 'acceptable', and are willing to drop their asking price to help facilitate a move.

The German club's stance has no doubt been affected in some way by their financial situation, with sales needed to help ease the burden created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

And Sancho is likely to be the main figure to depart.

BILD report Dortmund have told the England international he is free to leave, providing any potential suitors agree to pay a £75million transfer fee.

United were priced out of a move for him last summer when Dortmund were demanding £108m to be paid by August 10.

In the end it is believed United went as high as £93m but could not stretch further, by which point Dortmund had closed off the prospect of the player leaving.

Dortmund's key ambition this summer, though, is keeping hold of Erling Haaland, and offloading Sancho will allow them to do that.

BVB's sporting director Michael Zorc told ARD earlier this month: "We already had a gentlemen's agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions."

They are still keen to get any deal done early but that should prove relatively straightforward as United had already agreed personal terms with Sancho and it is expected that a similar arrangement will suit both parties.

Moreover, Dortmund want to ensure they do not miss out on their intended target to replace him, Lille's Jonathan Ikone.

A report from The Telegraph claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is making a bid for Sancho a priority this summer, despite some of his squad thinking he should move for Aston Villa's Jack Grealish instead.
