Borussia Dortmund explain stance on Jadon Sancho amid Manchester United transfer interest

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke claims the club is under no pressure to sell Manchester United transfer target Jadon Sancho despite club accounts showing a €44million loss for the financial year to 30 June 2020.

Sancho remains a priority target for United despite Dortmund insisting their star player will not leave this summer.

MEN Sport understands United are frustrated by the slow pace of negotiations with Dortmund through the agent Marco Lichtsteiner. Club sources say it is 'unusual' of Dortmund to have hired an intermediary to act on their behalf.

Dortmund revealed their preliminary club accounts for the 2019/20 financial year which showed a significant hit in revenue — unsurprising given the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chief financial officer Thomas Tress said: "The transfer market has completely collapsed because of COVID-19."

Watzke was asked at the same press conference about United's pursuit of Sancho and doubled down on their stance that the England international is not for sale.

He said: "We weren’t in a situation where we had to sell at any cost. Clubs noticed that too."

The MEN last month reported United were relaxed amid Dortmund's tactics to unnerve them in their pursuit of Sancho and sources in Germany say Dortmund want to 'own the story'.

United were irritated by inaccurate reports emanating from Germany that they had agreed terms with Sancho. United sources have described Sancho's wage expectations as a 'real situation'.
