Dortmund are "delighted" with the signing of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from Manchester City's academy but do not want to raise expectations too early.
The Bundesliga club have announced the arrival of the talented teenager, who joined City at Under-14 level from Reading and made his Under-18 debut aged just 15 but decided that he had better prospects of first team football by following the Jadon Sancho path.
Dortmund have established a reputation for developing some of the best talents in young football, and currently boast United target Sancho, Jude Bellingham, Gio Reyna and Erling Haaland in their team among others. The hope is that Bynoe-Gittens can also flourish in that environment, although for the time being the player will work with the youth teams to integrate at the club.
"Jamie Bynoe-Gittens has joined us, and we are delighted to have him in our youth set-up. He will initially play with the Under-19s," said sporting director Michael Zorc.
"Our scouting department have done a fantastic job. He is a highly talented wide player, who will get the chance to develop at his own pace in our youth teams.
"We don't want expectations to be raised too high right from the start. He is still a year younger than Jadon was then. The hope is that at some point he will be promoted to the professional team."
Bynoe-Gittens is not the only youngster to leave City's academy this summer, with 17-year-old Charlie McNeill moving back to United after seeing his opportunities limited with the Blues.
