Borussia Dortmund chief disputes Erling Haaland release clause claims amid transfer speculation

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke insists there is no release clause in the contract of star man Erling Haaland which could see him leave next year.

Haaland enjoyed a breakthrough season at RB Salzburg before joining Dortmund in January amid interest from Manchester United.

And the Norweigan has shown no sign of slowing down for Dortmund, scoring a remarkable 26 goals in 28 games to mark him out as one of the best strikers in Europe.

Unsurprisingly, a number of clubs remain interested in signing Haaland should the opportunity present itself and speculation has suggested there is a release clause in 2021.

According to German publication SportBILD, Bayern Munich are in dialogue with Haaland's agent Mino Raiola and see him as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

But Watzke has dismissed those suggestions, stressing there is no agreement and they are keen to keep him long term.

“There’s no such agreement,” Watzke told SportBILD. “And it’s not about that.

“It’s about convincing the player about the club and about our plans.

"We have a clear wish for Erling to stay with us, and we want to convince him and his agent to do that. I’m confident on that front.

“I think Erling feels at home with BVB. He definitely made the right choice to move to us last winter.

"To take another step so soon, I’d consider that the wrong decision for him, personally.”
