Boris Johnson 'victory tour' visit to Trump's White House delayed until June

Boris Johnson has delayed a "victory tour" visit to Donald Trump's White House until June, it is understood.

The Prime Minister and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds were invited to Washington in "early 2020" after he won an election landslide in December.

But The Sun newspaper revealed the trip - whose dates were never finalised - is now set to happen only in June when a summit of G7 leaders is due.

Downing Street did not comment, but no firm date had ever been set.

It comes at a tense time for the two nations as they try to thrash out a US-UK trade deal after Brexit- but remain deeply split over the Chinese phone giant Huawei.

The US President is said to have flown into a "rage" over Britain's decision to allow the firm access to parts of our new 5G network.

Meanwhile, the US is pressuring Britain to water down its food standards to allow chlorine-washed chicken as part of a trade deal.

Trump had said Britain and the United States were now free to strike a "massive" new trade deal after Brexit.

A possible trade trip to Australia and New Zealand by Johnson has also been scrapped, the Sun reported.

A source told the newspaper the decision was taken to focus on domestic issues.

"He has stripped down all his foreign travel this year to get his agenda done," they said.
