Boris Johnson is acting weak despite talking tough over Vladimir Putin ’s threats to invade Ukraine.
His promised barrage of financial sanctions has turned out to be a slap on the wrist and a smokescreen for past failures.
Putin’s cronies have been permitted to funnel billions through the UK capital, shamingly dubbed Moscow-on-Thames.
This is the moment when strong leadership is required to hit Putin and his gang where it really hurts -in the pocket.
Russian assets should be frozen and the regime’s supporters stopped from buying expensive property, using the courts, shopping in the West End, sending their kids to expensive private schools and travelling freely.
And European football’s showpiece Champions League final must be switched from St Petersburg if a single Russian tank crosses the Ukrainian border.
To avoid a war we need strong sanctions to bite now. When we do that, they might make Russia’s gangster President think again.

Cruel delay
Dropping a promised ban on fur imports would be another betrayal from a Tory Government paying no more than lip service to animal welfare.
Allowing new animal pelts to be sold here would green light cruelty.
The finger of blame for delay to the Animals Abroad Bill points at Jacob Rees-Mogg, the so-called Brexit Opportunities Minister.
Protecting fur imports overlooks the fact few people buy them but nearly everybody is against the vile trade.
The decent majority must be heard and a ban imposed. Immediately.
Hol lot of fun
British holidaymakers enjoying a cheeky morning drink then an afternoon kip are indulging in simple pleasures.
When people work hard and save for a break, let’s raise a glass and say three cheers for holiday fun and a deserved rest. Hic!
