Boris Johnson in trouble over white lines after his car gets fine for parking badly

The driver of a car regularly driven by Boris Johnson was fined £80 for parking outside the lines.

It comes after the Tory leadership contender admitted on Tuesday he may have broken the 70mph speed limit.

The ticket on the Toyota, left outside the south London home he shares with partner Carrie Symonds, was issued on May 31 for parking across two pay-and-display bays.

The ticket was issued to the green people carrier, which Mr Johnson is regularly seen driving, on May 31 at 8.53am.

The reason for the fine is given on the notice from Kensington and Chelsea Council as "not parked correctly in the markings of the bay".

If the penalty notice is paid within 14 days, Mr Johnson may only be on the hook for £40.

It is not known if it was Mr Johnson behind the wheel when the car was parked.

At his campaign launch the gaffe-prone ex-Major of London, when asked if he'd ever broken the law, said that he couldn't swear that he'd "always observed a top speed limit of 70mph".

In 2009 bumbling Mr Johnson said he had been "done by my own system" after being slapped with a £60 fine for forgetting to pay the congestion charge in central London.

In his first full year (2013) as Mayor of London parking fines on roads under the Mayor’s control rose by almost 14 per cent to £72 million.

Mr Johnson was approached for comment.
