Boots is on the 'front lines' in global fight to tackle coronavirus

The boss of Boots' parent company says the health and beauty giant is on the "front lines" in the fight against coronavirus.

Stefano Pessina's message came as Walgreens Boots Alliance released its second quarter results for the fiscal year, showing a slight fall in overall sales across its retail pharmacy international division.

The results, which are for a period before the pandemic was declared, show Boots UK's pharmacy sales increased 1.8 percent, but comparable retail sales dropped 4.6 percent.

Overall across the division, sales were reported to be $3.1 billion US for the quarter, a drop of 0.8 percent from the same quarter a year ago.

The company has stated that future impacts of Covid-19 on Walgreens Boots Alliance remain uncertain.

But executive vice chairman and CEO, Stefano Pessina, added: "During these unprecedented times of global uncertainty, Walgreens Boots Alliance is on the front lines of combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our number one priority is to continue to provide essential services, products and information at this critical moment of need, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to our customers and patients, and to our people.”
