Bootle fair called off due to 'bad weather' following night of chaos

The organisers of Bootle fair have confirmed that the funfair has been cancelled tonight because of the "bad weather".

The company that run the fair, Mega Value Fun Parks posted on their Facebook claiming that the site would be shut until tomorrow. But Merseyside Police confirmed chaos broke out at the fair last night. Officers were called to reports of a fight at the event, on Acorn Way, at around 8.05pm on Monday, April 11.

At the scene, they said a young woman had allegedly been assaulted by a young man, and he was kicked out of the event by security staff. The security staff then claimed a gang of teens and young people then gathered outside the fair and challenged them.

When police attended to remove the gang, bricks and bottles were thrown at officers. Two police vehicles were damaged during the incident and an officer suffered minor injuries.

Three young people also reported to police that they had been assaulted by security staff during the incident and sustained minor injuries. As a result of the disturbance, a 15-year-old female from Runcorn was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, criminal damage to a police vehicle and a public order offence.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to a police vehicle. Posting on the company's Facebook pages, it said: "Please note due to bad weather conditions the Bootle Mega Value Fun Park will not be operating today.

"We will start again tomorrow at 1pm. All vouchers/tickets purchased online are valid for any day and any session throughout our stay."

The post attracted a flurry of comments as people linked the closure to the disturbance last night. One person questioned whether the closure was while police investigated the incidents from the night before.

She commented: "Is this while the incident from yesterday is under investigation." Replying to the post, someone believed to be linked to the fair commented: "Na weather bad ride slip so we can put it on today."
