Boost for Bristol City as injuries mount for Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Easter Monday clash

Sheffield Wednesday may retain a minimal and mathematical possibility of reaching the Championship play-offs but the games are running out and the injuries mounting for Steve Bruce's side ahead of Monday's game against Bristol City .

Mario Vrancic's 97th-minute free-kick equaliser for Norwich on Good Friday means the Owls have to win all three of their remaning games and hope the five teams above them in the table all drop significant points between now and May 5.

Why Tomas Kalas' latest social media post has got Bristol City fans very excited

It's a distant possibility and, in reality, Bruce is just looking to get to the end of the season and secure a top-10 finish, although the summer promises to be a difficult transitional period with Wednesday under the threat of another transfer embargo.

Bruce has confirmed midfielder Adam Reach (Achilles) and Bristol-born winger Rolando Aarons (ankle) are unavailable whuile that key duo could also be joined on the treatment table by experienced goalkeeper Kieren Westwood (knee) and midfielder Sam Hutchinson (hamstring).

Striker Gary Hooper is set to return after being rested for the 2-2 against Norwich, while midfielder Barry Bannan could also play from the start after being a second-half substitute at Carrow Road.

Bristol City have added an 18-goal striker for their Championship play-off push

Bruce, whose side have lost just twice in the 15 games he has taken charge, told the Sheffield Star : "I knew that I could keep him (Hooper) fresh for Monday. It would be impossible for him to take part in two games in a couple of days with the problems he has had so we decided to leave him at home.

"He will give a freshness to the team and I think that is going to be important.

"Bristol City have had a good season. We know it will be a difficult game.

"They are a good side. They have been there or thereabouts all season so we know what to expect. It will be a typical Championship game.

"We want to finish the season strongly."
