Bongani Zungu Rangers transfer latest as Ibrox side decide against buy option

Rangers have decided against taking up their option on Bongani Zungu.

The South African midfielder failed to make an impact during his season long loan deal and will return to Amiens when it ends in the summer.

Zungu had arrived with a reputation but failed to live up to it and will head back to the French second tier after the final game of the season.

He won’t play for Rangers again after being handed a ban for breaching Covid protocols along with Calvin Bassey and Nathan Patterson.

Steven Gerrard admitted that was likely to be the end of his chances of a permanent deal and the Bafana Bafana star wouldn’t be returning next season.

And now Amiens boss Oswald Tanchot has confirmed he’ll be back at the Ligue 2 side, who currently sit 10th following relegation from the top flight last season.

He said: "This season we have used 40 players which is far, far too much. It's hard to create anything with that turnaround.

"For next season, we won't have the services of loan players Molla Wague and Racine Coly who will return to their parent club.

"But we will have Bongani Zungu back, who has a year left of his contract with us."
