A bomb disposal squad rushed to Weston-super-Mare yesterday after a bomb was found near Birnbeck Pier.
It was found by Birnbeck Regeneration Trust, a group dedicated to preserving the historical and architectural heritage of the pier.
The bomb was deemed safe after Weston Coastguard and the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team were called to the scene.

In a post on Facebook, the Birnbeck Regeneration Trust said: "The Trust would like to thank the Weston Coastguard, Sea Front Rangers and the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team who attended to a device found by the Trust during a site inspection in the area of the Old Pier.
"On closer inspection it was found to be safe."
