A bomb disposal squad rushed to Weston-super-Mare yesterday after a bomb was found near Birnbeck Pier.

It was found by Birnbeck Regeneration Trust, a group dedicated to preserving the historical and architectural heritage of the pier.

The bomb was deemed safe after Weston Coastguard and the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team were called to the scene.
