Bolton Wanderers player ratings vs Cambridge United - James Trafford & Ricardo Santos good in draw

Kyle Dempsey was sent off as the 10 men of Bolton Wanderers ended up holding on for a point in a goalless draw on the road to Cambridge United.

In a first half which did not sparkle, Wanderers came closest to taking the lead firstly through Jack Iredale's deflected effort which Amadou Bakayoko almost got on the end of. Then Elias Kachunga volleyed over from the edge of the box as the deadlock remained at the break.

Early in the second half, James Trafford produced a marvellous save to deny Harvey Knibbs the opener. Wanderers broke forward not long after and Dion Charles eventually blasted over.

Dempsey was given his marching orders with 15 minutes to go after bringing Knibbs down, following an earlier booking on Jack Lankester. And Knibbs fired wide from eight yards out with the last act of the game as the spoils were shared.

Here's how we rated the Bolton players in the encounter.

James Trafford - 7.5

Manchester City loanee rarely troubled by the U's in the first half, but picked up injury midway through and appeared to move awkwardly after. Produced fantastic stop to deny Harvey Knibbs after break to keep Bolton in game.

Gethin Jones - 6.5

Got forward when he could to support Bradley at the other end. Booked in the second half and fairly solid at the back.

Ricardo Santos - 7.5

Cool and calm in the middle of the back three, making multiple aerial clearances throughout the encounter and winning countless duels on the ground. Booked before end.

George Johnston - 7

Played out from back when he could and stood up to aerial challenge the U's posed.

Conor Bradley - 7

Liverpool loanee caused problems down the right flank for the hosts, with his pace and crossing ability. Booked for handball before half-time.

Aaron Morley - 6.5

Generally solid in possession in the middle of the park.

Kyle Dempsey - 4

Looked lively in the middle of the park for Bolton, but was shown yellow card for late tackle on Jack Lankester in first half. Had actually had decent second half but dismissed for second booking.

Jack Iredale - 6.5

Started against old club at left wing-back and had overall had a solid game against his former employers at both ends of the pitch.

Elias Kachunga - 6

Handed start as one of four changes and operated in number 10 role. Booked early on for tangle with Lloyd Jones, but went close to opening scoring with volley. Decent pressing and possession, but lacked end product.

Amadou Bakayoko -6.5

Caused problems for Cambridge with pace and physicality from the start and looked lively. Limited imapct after Bolton went down to 10 men.

Dion Charles - 5

Put in the work upfront but blasted early second half chance over. Was taken off after Whites went down to 10 men.

Substitutes:

Dapo Afolayan - 5.5

Slotted in to number 10 role. Didn't make huge impact.

Owen Beck - 5.5

Went to left wing-back in place of Iredale. Booked before end.

George Thomason - 5.5

Went into the middle after Dempsey's sending off.
