Bolton Wanderers complete Jon Dadi Bodvarsson transfer from Millwall and confirm contract length

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson from Millwall as Ian Evatt has boosted his options upfront.

The Iceland international has completed a move from the Championship side on a free transfer and put pen to paper on a 18-month-deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Bodvarsson joins a striking department at Wanderers which also includes Dion Charles and Amadou Bakayoko.

Evatt had been targeting another forward to add to his squad and now has his man with Bodvarsson.

The 29-year-old has experience of playing in England since 2016, playing for Wolves, Reading and Millwall in that time.

He had been at the Lions since 2019 but has made just one appearance for the club this season and was not part of the first team picture at Gary Rowett's side.

His contract at the Den was due to expire this summer.

He becomes the fifth signing of the January transfer window for Bolton following the permanent acquisitions of Charles and Aaron Morley, as well as the loan signings of Marlon Fossey and James Trafford.

He is available for this Saturday's clash against Shrewsbury Town and could make his debut in the encounter in Shropshire.

Wanderers boss Evatt said: "We’ve worked extremely hard to make that happen. Jon has bought in to the project and bought into the club and what we’re trying to do and the history of the club has kind of helped us with this one with the amount of Icelandic players we’ve had here in the past and Jon watched a lot of Bolton growing up.

“He was almost a fan so it’s great to have him on board and add some more strength to our squad.

"It’s taken some hard work from many people. But Jon has come here for the right reasons. Being an Icelandic fella, it has a bit of a history with Bolton with some good Icelandic players in the past, and he has almost been a supporter of the club in years gone by, so we’re delighted to have him.

"He’s an international footballer, only 29-years-old, he brings a lot of experience, a lot of good qualities to this team and we’re excited to have him. He’s another piece of the jigsaw.

" Jon is a player that hasn’t played a lot this season. He’s out of favour at Millwall, but has played international football. Similar to Dion (Charles) really, we have to be cautious with building him up and taking our time with him, but we’ve signed him with the future in mind, so yes, he will have an impact immediately but we’ll take our time with him and get him fully up to speed before we take any risks.”
