Body pulled out of Dublin canal identified and 'appears to be of man coming back from night out'

The man's body that was discovered dead in the Royal Canal in Dublin yesterday appears to be that of man coming back from night out.

The body of the man, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was pulled from the water at the Ballybough Bridge section of the waterway near Croke Park on Sunday afternoon at around 12.30pm.

The man was positively identified on Monday and his death is believed to be the result of a tragic incident.

Gardai were not able to immediately identify the body as the man was not found carrying any wallet or ID, reported the Irish Independent.

The man was dressed in clothes which made it appear that he had been on the way back from a night out and he was carrying a mobile phone and a set of ear buds when he died.

His body was taken to Dublin City Mortuary where a post mortem examination took place and he was later identified.

A spokesperson for gardai said: "Gardaí investigating the discovery of a body of a male that was taken from the Royal Canal on Sunday afternoon 21st August, 2002 have completed the post mortem.

"The man has been identified and a file will now be prepared for the Coroners court."
