The body of a 12-year-old girl has been found in a suitcase after she went missing on Friday. Her father became concerned when she failed to return home in Paris after school, the Mirror reports.
The girl's mother reported her missing to local police in the French capital’s north-eastern 19th arrondissement, later that day.
The horrific discovery was made after detectives began a desperate search for her that uncovered signs of a kidnapping in the basement of the family home.
CCTV footage showed a woman in her late 20s outside the building hauling a suitcase along. The suitcase was later found a few streets away, with the girl’s body inside. Her face was reportedly covered in tape and her throat had been cut several times.
A post-mortem is due to take place. Numbers were also found on her body, but detectives are so far unclear as to why. Her feet and wrists were also reportedly shackled.
The woman shown on CCTV is one of six who officers have arrested and retained in custody, BFMTV reported.
Among the arrested it the man who called the police after discovering the suitcase.
The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for "murder of a minor under the age of 15".
