Feb. 17--The body of a 22-year-old man was recovered Tuesday after a 12-foot canoe in which he was fishing with his fiancee and father capsized in San Francisco Bay.
The man, who hasn't been identified, was found about 8:50 a.m. face-down in 1 to 2 feet of water south of Coyote Point, where the trio had departed for their fishing trip, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
A helicopter rescue recovered the man, who was unconsciousness and unresponsive.
The man's fiancee was rescued from the water and taken to a hospital. His father was located a short time later, unconscious and unresponsive. The older man was also hospitalized, but his condition was not released.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the individuals involved in last night's tragedy," Coast Guard Capt. Greg Stump said.
The three had gone fishing near Oyster Point marina in the orange canoe, according to NBC Bay Area.
But when the group did not return that evening, crews with the Coast Guard and South San Francisco Fire Department began searching for them.
About 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, crew members heard a woman's cries for help one mile off Coyote Point. They found the woman in the water and a marine unit boat crew pulled her in. She was taken to Daly City Hospital for evaluation.
At 1:53 a.m., a Coast Guard helicopter crew found the 22-year-old man's father in the water. He was taken to Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame.
