Body found in search for Scots woman Karen Stevenson nearly a month after she went missing

A body has been found in the search for missing Scot Karen Stevenson.

The 42-year-old was last seen on Seafar Road, near McGregor Road in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire at around 3.15am on Saturday, February 19.

On Sunday police revealed that the body of a woman was found in the Glenboig Road area of Glenboig that morning.

Formal identification is yet to take place but Karen's family have been informed.

Officers said the death is currently being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

Lanarkshire Police Division stressed that enquiries are at 'an early stage'.

A statement from the force was released on Sunday afternoon.

It read: "On the morning of Sunday, 13 March, the body of a woman was found in the Glenboig Road area of Glasgow.

"Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Karen Stevenson, who was reported missing from the Cumbernauld area on Saturday, February 19 have been informed.

"Enquiries into the death are at an early stage. It is currently being treated as unexplained.

"But there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
