Body found in search for missing Scot Neil MacFarlane

A body has been found in the search for missing Scots man Neil MacFarlane.

Police made the grim find in the Allanton area, in the borders, around 6pm last night.

The body is to be formally identified but Neil's family have been told of the discovery.

Neil was last seen in the Braemar Crescent area of Carluke around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said a post-mortem would help find the cause of death.

He said: "Police in Lanarkshire can confirm that a body of a man has been recovered in the Allanton area at around 6pm on Thursday, 20 August.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of missing man Neil MacFarlane has been informed.

"A post-mortem will be carried out in due course and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death."
