Body found in search for missing John Loughrie

The family of a man who was last seen nearly a month ago have been contacted by police after a body was discovered.

Officers were alerted to the grim find at around 7am this morning off the coast of Portsoy in Aberdeenshire .

John Loughrie, 51, was last seen in Findochty on February 9.

A major search was launched by cops which included drones scouring the area.

Police were joined by the Coastguard with searches including gardens and outhouses.

The force have now said that while formal investigation has not taken place, the family have been notified.

A statement read: "Police Scotland can confirm that around 7am on Friday, the body of a man was found off the coast of Portsoy.

"Formal identification has yet to take place however the family of John Loughrie (51), who was reported missing from the Findochty area, has been informed."
