Body found in search for missing Bristol man

Police searching for a man who has been missing from his home near Bristol for ten days said a body has been found in South Wales.

Officers at Avon and Somerset police had appealed for any sightings of a 56-year-old man called Victor, who had not been seen or contacted his family for almost a fortnight and was reported missing on Thursday, May 12.

Sadly, police announced today that rescue teams retrieved a man's body from water in South Wales, and although formal identification is yet to be carried out, they do believe the man to be Victor.

Bristol Live reported on the police appeal last week when the family of the Pucklechurch man reported him missing and said he normally spoke to or contacted his family every day, but they had not heard from him.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said the tragic news had been broken to the family, and inquiries will be continuing to prepare a file for the coroner.

"Sadly, today (Sunday 22 May) a body has been recovered in the search for missing Victor," a spokesperson said. The 56-year-old, from Pucklechurch, was reported missing on Thursday 12 May after family were concerned they had not heard from him since the previous day. A body was today rescued from water in South Wales. Although formal identification is yet to be complete, we do believe it to be Victor. His family have been informed of today’s sad development and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time," he added.

"Enquiries will continue to be carried out on behalf of the coroner. The circumstances of the death are not believed to be suspicious," he said.
