Body found in sea is missing Scot who vanished from home seven days ago

A body found in the sea off the coast of North Uist has been formally identified as Duncan Macleod who vanished a week ago.

The 52-year-old was reported missing to Police Scotland after last being seen in the Baymore area of the island on Wednesday, November 9.

A number of searches were carried out to try to find him after he failed to return to his Western Isles home.

But officers have confirmed that a body found in the Grimsay area of the island on Wednesday afternoon has now been positively identified as being Mr Macleod.

His next of kin have been informed and have asked for privacy. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as is the case with all sudden deaths.

Inspector Ian McCorquodale said: “Our thoughts are with Duncan’s family and friends.

“His family have asked for privacy and thanked everyone, including the local community and emergency services, involved in the searches for him.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
