Body found in lake in search for boy, 15, who vanished at shopping centre

A body has been found in the search for a missing 15-year-old boy who vanished at a shopping centre.

The teenager was seen entering Alexandra Lake at the Lakeside Shopping Centre last night.

Teams of specialist diving crews and other emergency personnel spent hours searching the water.

This afternoon Essex Police said the search had been suspended following the discovery of a body.

The teenager's family have been informed and formal identification is expected to take place 'in due course', the force said in a brief statement on Twitter.

A new inflatable water park had opened on the lake a few weeks ago.

One witness told EssexLive last night that it felt eerie watching the search take place last night.

Another eyewitness added: “There was dozens of emergency vehicles, boats in the lakes and about 50 emergency officers on the decking to the lake.

"It was a really awful sight.

The boy was thought to have gone missing at roughly 8.50pm.

Alexandra Lake is the main body of water at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Grays.

The boy is believed to have entered the water near to the Travelodge hotel.
