It is believed cleaners found the man at about 6am on Monday near to Braidhurst High, Motherwell.

The 33-year-old was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have now launched a probe into the Dalriada Crescent discovery but are treating the death as unexplained.

The school was shut to staff and children of key workers for the day, who were taken to a nearby primary. It has since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 5.55am on Monday, 18 January, we received the report of concern for a man outside a premises on Dalriada Crescent in Motherwell.

“Emergency services attended and a 33-year-old man was taken to Wishaw General Hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service where he was pronounced dead.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

“As with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

A spokesman for North Lanarkshire Council said: “We were able to transfer pupils of keyworkers to a nearby primary school to allow police to carry out their investigations.

“This is currently a police matter and it would be inappropriate to make any further comment.”
