Body found after man seen struggling in water at Edinburgh Reservoir

A body has been found after a man was seen struggling in the water at an Edinburgh Reservoir.

Police raced to the Thriepmuir Reservoir after the alarm was raised at around 5.35pm on Wednesday, 14 July.

Emergency crews desperately launched a large rescue mission to find the man before sadly discovering his body.

The man's family have been contacted and made aware of the tragic find.

The Thriepmuir Reservoir was closed but has now re-opened alongside the car park and public path.

Police Scotland said: "Officers in Edinburgh can confirm that a body has been found in the Thriepmuir Reservoir following a recovery operation after a man was seen getting into difficulties in the water around 5.35pm on Wednesday, 14 July.

"Formal identification is yet to take place, but the family of the man, who have asked for privacy, have been made aware.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"Thriepmuir Reservoir car park and the path alongside the reservoir is now reopen to the public."
