PHITSANULOK: Searchers have found and retrieved the bodies of two elderly South Koreans who drowned in the Nan River after their buggy was rear-ended on a pier at a golf course in Phrom Phiram district on Tuesday.

Phitsanulok governor Pipat Ekpapan said the body of Jun Yong Sung, 68, was seen floating in the river about 10.30pm on Wednesday. It was about 2.5 kilometres from the Prompiram Suannam & Golf Club in tambon Sri Phirom where the incident occurred.

The body of Jaseoong Ha, 76, was found about 10 kilometres downstream on Thursday morning.

The bodies were taken to Buddhachinaraj Hospital in Muang district, pending ther return to South Korea.

The provincial governor said local authorities would step up waterway safety throughout Phitsanulok.

The two men were playing a round at the golf course, accompanied by their wives, on Tuesday morning. Their buggy was rear-ended by their wives' cart on the pier while they were waiting to cross the Nan River, which flows through it.

Earlier reports their bodies had already been retrieved were incorrect.
