Boardmasters music festival ticket holders will receive refunds for cancelled event

Boardmasters music festival ticket holders will receive a full refund, it has been confimred.

Over 50,000 people were set to attend the five-day music festival in Newquay, which was scheduled to begin today (August 7).

But the event was called off on Tuesday night due to severe weather warning — just 12 hours before it was set to begin.

The festival has now issued a statement after the cancellation, saying those who purchased a ticket from the Boardmasters website and official ticket sellers will get a refund for the face value of their tickets.

The news comes after organisers were unable to confirm whether the tickets would actually be refunded as of Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking to ITV News at lunchtime, Boardmasters organiser Andrew Topham repeatedly failed to answer whether ticket holders would be guaranteed their money back.

He told the programme: "Refund advice will be put out via our social channels and our website as soon as possible."

The ITV reporter then asked: "And you expect that people will get their monies back? Does it work like that?"

Mr Topham said: "Yes, we will put that information out by our website as soon as possible."

He added that the festival had to "go through some steps with out individual ticket providers" to give the correct information regarding refunds.

After repeating the question several times, the reporter is heard saying: "You're slightly evading the question about whether you can refund the tickets."

The ITV journalist was then told to move on, repeatedly, by an off-camera PR.

Tickets to the annual event ranged from £69 to over £300 per person.
