Blue, green or red - what colour should Ayrshire bridge be?

The colour of Merryvale footbridge in Irvine is in the hands of the public.

North Ayrshire Council are setting up an online poll to decide its future shade as part of a much needed refurbishment.

Three colours will be whittled down to one, based on the public vote, with residents having a choice of Dark Cherry, Duchess Blue or Ivy Green.

A poll, on the ‘Irvine Virtual Community Centre’ Facebook group, opens at Midday on Monday, September 21 and will run for a week .

The winning colour will be painted onto the footbridge as part of refurbishment works next spring/summer.

Merryvale footbridge provides a pedestrian and cycleway link across the River Irvine, between Merryvale Road and Milgarholm.

Th council say traditional heritage shades were selected, in keeping with the style and design on the footbridge.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Green New Deal and Sustainability said: “Merryvale footbridge is in need of refurbishment and who better to decide on its colour than the people who use it. “

“We’ve selected three suitable shades for residents to choose from which will not only spruce up the footbridge but, combined with the refurbishment work, ensure that the footbridge can be enjoyed by many generations to come."
