MUMBAI: In a big blow to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), their ace all-rounder Pat Cummins was on Friday ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2022 season due a “minor hip injury,” as per cricket.com.au.
The Cricket Australia website reported that the Australian captain is “heading back to Sydney to make full recovery ahead of Australia's tour of Sri Lanka.” A source in Knight Riders camp termed the development as “unfortunate, but true.”
The 29-year-old Cummins, arguably the top fast bowler in world cricket, played just five games for KKR this season, in which he took seven wickets @ 30.28 (economy rate 10.68), including three for 22 against the Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium.
In the earlier game between the sides, Cummins had blasted a 14-ball fifty to star in KKR's thrilling win over MI.
With 10 points from 12 matches, the Shreyas Iyer-led Knight Riders have an outside chance in the race for the playoffs. The Knight Riders will face Sunrisers Hyderabad next on Saturday, before their final league game against Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday.
“Cummins’ recovery is only expected to take a fortnight. It had already been announced he would miss the three T20 Internationals that begin the six-week long tour of Sri Lanka,” reported cricket.com.au.
