Fans of a small card and gift shop in Crossgates Shopping Centre will be sad to hear of its sudden closure.
The Card Shop had traded for two years in the centre, and a number of people have spoken out on social media to say it will be missed.
A spokesperson for the shopping centre confirmed the news, but was unable to provide a full explanation for why it wouldn't open its doors again.
The majority of retailers had to close in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, leaving the many independent store owners in our city out of work for weeks on end.
Just this week non-essential shops have been allowed to reopen, following strict safety measures.
The Card Shop in Crossgates sold "different and beautiful" cards which were admired by many.
Speaking of the business's departure from the shopping centre, a number of people have said the shop will be missed.
One shopper said: “It’s a lovely little card shop, I used it a lot as they always had a really good selection of sentimentally versed cards, the lady who owned it was a friendly lady too. It will be sad not to have it open anymore. Passing my best wishes to the lady and hoping this isn’t due to COVID why she has had to close her business down.”
Another regular shopper said: “The card shop was great.
"I am going to miss it. I usually buy all my cards for the year but with lockdown, I haven't been to the centre it is such a shame.
Another devastated shopper said: “Oh no!! Gutted!! I loved that shop from day one and used it every time as different, beautiful cards that were different to the big ‘card factory’ ones!! I hope the owner gets these messages and opens up again somewhere very soon.
Another shopper said: “What a shame, that shop was awesome for cards, I always went there rather than card factory, as they had better cards. This shop is one that will be missed."
