Blast at fireworks unit: Madras HC grants bail to man

MADURAI: The Madras high court recently granted bail to a man who was arrested in a case pertaining to a blast at a fireworks unit in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district.

The court was hearing the bail petition filed by White, a foreman of a fireworks unit who was arrested by the Vembakottai police on February 26.

The case of the prosecution is that an employee was killed in a blast that was reported at the fireworks unit named RSR Fireworks situated at Thayilpatti village in the district on February 26. Following which, the police registered a case against the cracker unit owner and the petitioner.

The counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the owner of the unit had already paid a compensation of Rs 5.50 lakh to the family members of the deceased.

Considering the fact that the owner had already paid compensation to the family members of the deceased and that there were no previous cases against the petitioner, Justice K Murali Shankar granted bail to the petitioner on certain conditions.
