Blantyre Victoria 'won't get the credit they deserve' as title dreams voided

Blantyre Victoria boss John Gibson admits he is gutted not to get the chance to battle for the league title after the campaign was axed.

The season was ended by West Region chiefs last week, less than 24 hours after the SFA revealed no football would be played until June 10 at the earliest.

The West Region have still to confirm whether the season will be considered null and void, or current standings will be final placings.

It appears to be the end of junior football with the West of Scotland League era ushered in from next season.

The Vics had been on a 15-game winning streak before the national lockdown and looked set for a late charge for the Championship trophy.

Gaffer Gibson said: “Ultimately I’m disappointed for everyone in and around the club. From the players, to the committee to all the fans.

“We have now won 15 games in a row in the league and looked set to pose a title challenge. Now unfortunately the boys will not get the true credit they deserve in terms of accolades.

“It is one of those things but the health of the public is paramount at this time.

"I would personally like to thank all NHS workers and various other key workers at this time who are keeping the country going at this difficult time.

"I and the rest of the team look forward to the beginning of next season and hope we can continue our excellent run of form.”
