Blantyre man charged over 'alleged indecent online chat' after doorstep confrontation

A Blantyre man has been arrested after a video appeared online purporting to show a so-called child protection group descending on his home in an apparent sting operation.

The video surfaced on the Child Online Safety Team UK Facebook page on Monday night, alleging a man had made inappropriate contact with an underage child.

Police later said a 25-year-old male had been charged in connection with alleged "indecent" online communications.

The man has since been released awaiting an appearance at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged indecent online communications after officers were called to a [Blantyre] address around 7.40pm on Monday, July 4, regarding the allegation.

“The man has been released on an undertaking to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court at a later date. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
