“Black Magic” Buzz Grips IPL 2026 After Viral SRH vs CSK Moment

The controversy began after a viral video surfaced showing a Sunrisers Hyderabad supporter performing a ritual involving a lemon during a crucial moment in the match. The timing of the act—coinciding with the dismissal of CSK batter Shivam Dube—quickly fueled chatter across social media platforms.

The Viral Incident

The moment unfolded during the 17th over of CSK’s innings while chasing a target of 194. With the score at 154/7, Shivam Dube was at the crease, widely regarded as CSK’s last major hope for a comeback.

In the now-viral clip, a fan in the stands is seen holding a lemon, rotating it while appearing to chant or mutter something, before gesturing toward Dube. Just moments later, Dube was bowled by Sakib Hussain, triggering loud celebrations among SRH supporters.

The uncanny timing led many online to jokingly—and in some cases seriously—attribute the wicket to the so-called ritual.

Unverified Complaint Adds Fuel

Alongside the video, an unverified letter claiming that Chennai Super Kings had lodged a complaint with IPL authorities began circulating online. The authenticity of this letter, however, remains doubtful, with no official confirmation from the franchise or the league.

Lalit Modi Weighs In

Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi added further intrigue to the situation by commenting on social media. While dismissing the viral complaint letter as likely fake, Modi suggested that such practices may not be entirely new to the league.

He claimed that during the 2011 season, he had received “concrete proof” of a team owner allegedly engaging in similar activities in an opponent’s dressing room. According to Modi, he had even alerted other team owners at the time.

In his posts, he maintained a cautious tone, calling the current incident a mix of “black magic, coincidence, or fake news,” leaving the interpretation open-ended.

Coincidence or Superstition?

While the incident has undoubtedly captured fans’ imagination, there is no evidence to suggest any real influence of such rituals on the game. Cricket, like many sports, often sees moments where coincidence and timing create compelling narratives.

Still, the episode highlights how quickly unusual visuals can turn into viral stories—especially in a high-profile tournament like the IPL, where emotions, superstition, and entertainment often collide.

For now, the “lemon ritual” remains just another curious chapter in IPL folklore, leaving fans divided between amusement and belief.
