'black-ish' star Jenifer Lewis hits Emmys red carpet in Nike to support Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick made an appearance at the Emmys Monday ... kind of.

The former NFL quarterback got some support on the red carpet from "black-ish" star Jenifer Lewis, who walked in a red-and-black Nike sweatshirt, pants and sneakers.

"I am wearing Nike to applaud them for supporting Colin Kaepernick and his protest against racial injustice and police brutality," she told Variety.

"What can I do? What can I do that's meaningful? I'll wear Nike. I'll wear Nike to say thank you. Thank you for leading the resistance! We need more corporate America to stand up also."

Kaepernick last played in 2016, when he knelt during the National Anthem in protest of police brutality. Nike recently made him the face of its "Just Do It" campaign, a 2-minute spot called "Dream Crazy."

"Don't ask if your dreams are crazy, ask if they're crazy enough," Kaepernick says at the end of the spot.

Nike's gamble was crazy enough, at least in the short-term; sales grew 31 percent during Labor Day weekend over last year's numbers across the same time period.

An episode of "black-ish" about the brutality protests was shelved at ABC, but the network denies the storyline had anything to do with the decision.

"Thank you, Colin," Lewis said on the red carpet Monday. "Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for being courageous. Thank you for taking a knee. Thank you."
