BJP’s reply to 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' is communalism, says Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday said the BJP has no reply to the Congress’ "Bharat Jodo Yatra" except ‘conversion, communalism and riots’ so they are busy spreading hate and violence.

Apparently referring to the recent incidents of communal violence in the tribal Bastar region, he told reporters that Maoist violence is on the wane but it appears that the BJP has now taken a cue from the rebels.

“Look at the Narayanpur incident, those who are in jail in connection with violence belong to BJP. What happened in the BJYM rally organized in Raipur recently? The police personnel were beaten by them,” chief minister Baghel told reporters prior to his departure to Bhopal on Tuesday.

“The BJP is restless as it is uprooted from Chhattisgarh and thus the opposition is making a futile attempt to disturb law and order of the state”, he alleged

“Our policies have made the Maoists shun violence, but the BJP is trying to create disturbance in the tribal Bastar region. The BJP did not even allot patta to the tribals during its tenure, instead, it tried to give tribal lands to the corporate,” said the chief minister.

So far police have arrested 46 people in the Narayanpur violence case. On January 2, hundreds of people vandalized a Church in Narayanpur district headquarters. Along with this, the police personnel including the SP of the district were injured in the incident.

The chief minister’s remark against BJP came a day after CPI-M polit bureau member Brinda Karat wrote a letter to the chief minister counting failures of the state government in tackling communal flare in the tribal region. The letter to the chief minister also accused BJP and RSS of conspiring violence in Bastar.
