LUCKNOW: Claiming a moral victory in the recently concluded assembly elections, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) owes its victory to the EVMs. He said the people of Uttar Pradesh have voted to approve of Samajwadi Party as the alternative of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
“All sections of the society have voted in favour of the SP, as a result of which the party’s vote percentage and number of seats have increased whereas that of the BJP have gone down. The election results are a mandate of the people that SP is the alternative of the BJP in UP,” he said, addressing party workers in Sitapur on the sidelines of a private event.
He congratulated the people of the state for ‘teaching the BJP a lesson’ and telling the saffron party that they can be defeated. He also thanked the people for indicating towards a possible change in national and state politics in the near future by reposing faith in SP.
“The fact is that price rise has touched a new high and law and order has gone to a new low since the election results have been announced. This has only added to the resentment among people against the BJP,” he said. He said the BJP has no faith in the constitution and a democratic set-up. “BJP wants to stay in power by hook or crook and by using muscle and money power. EVMs have got the BJP its electoral win. In the elections Samajwadi Party has got a moral victory,” he said adding: “Everyone knows how the BJP has formed the government.”
Akhilesh said the SP government in UP had put in place a social and administrative structure that has been destroyed by the BJP regime. “During the SP regime a world class police response system was put in place under the name of UP100, which was destroyed and reconstituted as Dial 112. Education and health services left students and people helpless during the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown and no one got any help from the government during these times of distress,” he said.
Earlier, Akhilesh had stated that the party got 51.5% of the votes in postal ballot, projecting SP alliance victory on 304 seats which is the truth of the recently concluded elections. He thanked government servants, teachers and voters for voting in favour of the SP alliance in the elections.
With his motorcade halted by a stray bull crossing the road while the SP chief was on his way to Sitapur, Akhilesh took the opportunity to hit out at the stray cattle menace in UP and cautioned: “Stray bulls will make commuting difficult in UP, those who can dare should go ahead,” he tweeted in Hindi.
