BJP, Congress are similar: SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Rahul Gandhi’s 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said though his party’s sentiments were with Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, the ideology of his party was different from the Congress and likened the grand old party with the BJP.

He also reiterated that he had not got the invitation to join the yatra. “Our emotions are with their yatra (but) I have not got any invitation for it," he told reporters in Lucknow.

“Our party has a different ideology. “The BJP and the Congress are the same,” he said responding to a media query on SP participation in the yatra . Asked if he has got the invitation from the Congress, Akhilesh asked the journalists if they had a copy of any such invite with them. “If you have it on your phone, send it to me,” he said.

Yadav, however, did not elaborate on his comment clubbing the BJP and the Congress in the same bracket.

Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is currently on winter break, will resume from Delhi on January 3 and enter UP.

The Congress has said it had invited leaders of several non-BJP parties, including Akhilesh Yadav, BSP chief Mayawati and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary for the yatra's UP Leg.

Rajendra Chaudhary, a spokesperson for the SP, had earlier said that Yadav was unlikely to take part in the yatra due to his “preoccupation” with party programmes.

RLD chief Chaudhary is also unlikely to take part. Anil Dubey, RLD chief spokesperson, said, “I do not think that Jayantji will be going for the yatra. He is preoccupied with party programmes that have already been planned.”
