Bizarre parallels between the 2022 and 2023 Seahawks

If you are feeling a sense of déjà vu with the Seattle Seahawks and how their season has played out, fear not, because we have been here before. Literally. Like, just last year.

Let us wind the clock back to Saturday, January 7th, 2023 and pretend we’re there, shall we?

The Seahawks are going into a game tomorrow with a .500 record. Although they are better than many thought, there is still a sense of disappointment in how the second half of the season turned out. Seattle once led the division with a 6-3 record, but lost five of their next seven games to sit at 8-8. Their hopes for the playoffs are slim, but not dead. They need to defeat a division rival AND hope the Green Bay Packers lose a home game to a division rival they historically own.

Hmm, why does this sound familiar? *snaps fingers* oh yeah, that’s right! Fast forward to today, Saturday, January 6th 2024:

Although I, and all reasonable people, firmly believe the NFL is not scripted, this sure does give some ammo to our tin foil hat wearing friends who do. The parallels between these seasons line up better than Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album with The Wizard of Oz.

Of course, instead of hoping a resurgent Detroit Lions team can upset the Packers, the hopes of the 12th Man lie with the 7-9 Chicago Bears who have already been eliminated from postseason contention. The same Bears who have only beaten the Packers four times in the last fifteen years, and not since December of 2018. Also, the Seahawks will have a much more challenging opponent with the Arizona Cardinals on the road than a home game against Baker Mayfield’s patchwork Rams from last year.

Still, there aren’t many last year who thought the Lions could pull off the impossible. And I’m sure there were plenty of 12’s who weren’t confident about yet another game with the Rams.

Although the odds look slim, there’s still hope for Seattle to make the playoffs again. Crazier things have happened. We know this, because they did 12 months ago.
