Australian singer Firerose has shared a raw new TikTok accusing her ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus of “narcissistic abuse”, opening up about what she says went on behind closed doors in their short-lived marriage.
She and the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer married in October 2023 and split just seven months later, finalising their divorce in 2024. Billy Ray has previously denied allegations of abuse in legal documents and has accused her of being the one who was abusive and manipulative, something she rejects.
In the new video, which she also posted as a Reel on Instagram on December 4, Firerose overlaid old footage of the pair looking loved-up with a message to her younger self.
“In your 20s you’ll meet a 49-year-old man who convinces you you’re his soulmate… It is very important you don’t believe him,” she wrote, a line that’s now doing the rounds on social media.
She addresses other survivors directly, writing in the caption: “If you’ve survived narcissistic abuse, you’re not alone. It’s chilling how similar survivors experiences really are. Behind closed doors, it’s always the same playbook. Control, isolation, rage, manipulation, walking on eggshells, cognitive dissonance, feeling like the only person in the world that can be experiencing what you are.”
Despite the darkness she describes, she finishes her post with a hopeful note rooted in her faith: “But I promise, God sees everything and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You are far stronger than you think. Love is always still real, even if what you’re experiencing right now is abuse, not love.”

Firerose has already spoken publicly about her relationship once before, in an interview with The Sunday Telegraph’s Stellar magazine in October 2024, and her latest TikTok sits pretty neatly alongside those earlier claims.
Reflecting on the romance, she told the outlet, “When I think about what I just went through, I would have told my 22-year-old self to run in the opposite direction and never look back.”
She also said her friends and family noticed her gradually disappearing from their lives, explaining, “My family and friends all had the same experience: me withdrawing and pushing them away. The way I experienced it was: ‘Oh, he’s just really protective.’”
In the same interview, she alleged that as their relationship progressed, she became more and more isolated, and claimed Billy Ray warned her about going out in public.

Firerose alleged that he told her, “You’re a Cyrus now. You can’t be going to church. You can’t be going to public places where people could follow you home. You’re going to be murdered.”
She has also accused him in court filings of “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse”, saying she did not think she would “survive” the divorce.
Billy Ray, meanwhile, has painted a completely different picture in his own court filings.
He has claimed that he was the one who was “physically”, verbally and emotionally abused by Firerose per PEOPLE, alleging that she tried to isolate him from his family and that she interfered with his relationship with his daughters. He has also accused her of attempting to control aspects of his career and mishandling his finances after their split, allegations she disputes.
All of this has played out alongside a very public new chapter in his personal life, with Billy Ray now dating actor Elizabeth Hurley, a relationship that has generated its own headlines and commentary.

For Firerose, though, the focus in this latest post isn’t on who he’s with now, but on reaching people who might feel as alone and confused as she says she once did.
