Friday morning, the Cincinnati Bengals threw five players on physically unable to perform/NFI lists before the opening of training camp Saturday.
As players reported Friday, the Bengals added three more to the NFI, highlighted by Billy Price:
- LB Noah Dawkins
- LS Clark Harris
- C Billy Price
Like the initial five, the three players here will still count toward the 91-player limit.
Price is by far the most notable though. A first-round pick last year, Price only appeared in 10 games after hurting himself during the draft process, then early in the season.
The NFL designation means Price didn’t suffer whatever his ailment is under team supervision. Geoff Hobson of the team’s official site said this: “Word is that Price has a minor injury and would play if Saturday were a game. Should be back at center soon, so Hopkins probably gets fir…”
Typically, unless it is reported as serious, a trip to the NFI isn’t a big red flag because the player could return any day. But Price’s recent injury history and the loss of Jonah Williams and Clint Boling already make this a little more noteworthy than it would normally be.
