Billy Gilmour Brighton transfer 'excites' Rangers hero as Chelsea exit given thumbs up

Ally McCoist has given his seal of approval over a Billy Gilmour switch to Brighton.

The former Rangers kid looks set to leave Chelsea once again with the Seagulls reported to be looking to land the Scotland international. The youngster spent time on loan at Norwich City last term but suffered relegation with the Canaries as he looks to bounce back to his best.

The 21-year-old has looked likely to be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit door all summer with the midfielder frozen out under Thomas Tuchel . He was also left without a squad number for the upcoming season at the Blues. The midfielder has established himself as a key member of Steve Clarke's Scotland set-up and has already got 15 caps to his name as he bids to add even more to his haul.

Rangers legend McCoist is 100 per cent sure a move to Brighton would suit Gilmour labelling the potential switch as a 'great fit' and a move that 'excites him'.

Speaking about hooking up with Graham Potter's side, he said: "100 per cent. Yes I do, that kind of move really appeals to me for the wee man. I know he didn't hit it off at Norwich and I know a lot of their fans weren't too happy.

"But I don't know if Billy Gilmour suited going into a team that were fighting relegation and weren't going to have possession of the football.

"Brighton are a bright young team with a bright young manager, doing fantastically well. They play the game the right way, it's good to watch. I just think it would be a great fit, that move excites me. I think it would be a good move for Billy Gilmour."

Legendary goalkeeper Shay Given agreed, adding: "I think as you say they're a really settled squad and someone of Billy's quality would really fit in there.

"I just think Brighton are now an established Premier League team. Billy needs to get playing regular and somebody like Graham Potter can get the best out of him."
