Bills releasing former Panthers CB Captain Munnerlyn

Captain Munnerlyn’s stint with Carolina North didn’t last long. According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, the Bills are releasing the former Panthers slot cornerback. Munnerlyn was signed by Buffalo only a few weeks ago after spending the last two years with Carolina Original Recipe.

Based on the first round of cuts that came out yesterday, it appears the Panthers will be rolling with Javien Elliott at Munnerlyn’s old spot.

Buffalo is also making a couple of other notable cuts today, including running back LeSean McCoy, per Adam Schefter at ESPN.

Carolina is about as set at running back as any team in the NFL, so there’s no reason to assume McCoy would be a target for waivers.

There is another interesting possibility, though. According to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, Buffalo also waived rookie quarterback Tyree Jackson.

Jackson went undrafted and did not perform great in the preseason. However, he might make sense as a developmental QB for the Panthers. He’s about the same size (6-foot-7, 249 pounds) as Cam Newton and can do many of the same things, albeit not as well.

The deadline for teams to trim their rosters from 90 to 53 players if 4:00 p.m. ET today.

Update:

The Bills have also released former Carolina safety Kurt Coleman, per Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

The Panthers are set at safety with Tre Boston back in the fold, but Coleman is a name to remember if somebody gets injured.
